What's in the Theatre this week?

This week at the Oxford Playhouse:
Edward Albee's Three Tall Women
Three women. Together. In one room. Memories of love, pain, sex, disappointments, hopes and joys. Until Sat 13 May.

The Gondoliers
Set in Venice in the early eighteenth century, this delightfully humorous operetta is a fun-loving story of mislaid monarchs, young lovers and Venetian high jinks that finally unravels to reveal a happy ending after all. Mon 15 May - Sat 20 May.

This week at the Old Fire Station:
Agamemnon
A vividly depicted story of a husband murdered, sacrificed; a much wronged mother, murderer and adulteress. Acting, music and dance wildly and energetically tell the story of a man trapped within a world of destiny and divine justice. Tue 9 May - Sat 13 May, 7:30 pm + 2:30 pm on Wednesday and Saturday.

Othello
In the blazing heat, the manipulative interplay between Lago and Othello unravels, captivating all audiences. The timeless setting and powerful cast give this production of Shakespeare's tragedy a raw intensity. Tue 16 May - Sat 20 May, 7:30 pm + 2:30 pm on Saturday

This week at the Burton Taylor Theatre:
Loot by Joe Orton
A bank robbery, a funeral, a coffin full of cash and a mother's naked corpse. Orton's Freudian nightmare brings together two inept career criminals, a black widow, a grieving old man and a psychotic police officer. And that dead body. Tue 09 May - Sat 13 May, 7:30pm

Canting and Canapés by Tamara Barnett
A witty and brave new satire on the fallible nature of belief whereby four friends become embroiled in a battle of wits - This is sharp, surprising and guaranteed to entertain. Tue 16 May - Sat 20 May, 7:30pm

This week at the New Theatre (Formerly Apollo):
The Blair B'Stard Project New Statesman Tour: Rik Mayall
Born 3rd March 1958, Rik Mayall first came to prominence in BBC TV's anarchic comedy 'The Young Ones', which he co-wrote with Ben Elton and Lise Mayer. This, together with 'The Comic Strip', which he also co-wrote and starred in with an array of now well-established household names, firmly established so-called 'alternative' comedy on mainstream British television. Arguably, Rik's strongest creation, aside from Rick in 'The Young Ones' is Alan B'stard, the conniving, far right wing Tory MP in ITV's 'The New Statesman'. Mon 8 May - Sat 13 May.
