The Gondoliers

Tartuffe
By Molière, translated and adapted by Ranjit Bolt. Tartuffe, a sanctimonious and scheming con-man, tricks his way into the heart and household of the affluent merchant Orgon. Appearing pious and considered a superior role model for members of the family, the hypocrite Tartuffe employs unholy tactics to turn this once peaceful household upside down through his corrupt and deceitful behaviour. Chaos reigns as gullible Orgon fails to see his houseguest for what he is. What's in the Cinema this week? (May 19 - 25)

The long wait for The DaVinci Code is finally over! Opening at almost every theatre in Oxford this week is the controversial film about a symbologist and a cryptologist who uncover deeply covered religious secrets while trying to solve the riddle surrounding the death of a museum curator. The film stars Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, and Ian McKellen, is directed by Ron Howard, runs 2 hours 29 minutes, and contains flagellation and other moderate violence.

Opening next week is the final part of the trilogy, X-Men 3. The last installment in the series sees the mutants given the choice to give up their powers or keep them. The film stars Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, Anna Paquin, Kelsey Grammer, and Rebecca Romijn. Run time is 104 minutes. Certificate 12A.

Badge and the BBC
BBC TV are filming at The Big Bang, so to provide some traditional Wednesday night ambience (although it's a Monday), BADGE have agreed to return and perform. Playing as a Trio in true acoustic style, with Acoustic Guitar, Double Bass, and much to Theo's chagrin 'subtle' Drums. There will be NO CHARGE for music on this special night.
‘Badge’ - Luca Frassani (gtr & vcls), Paul Jefferies (bass) and Theo Sloot (drums/percussion) – provides a wonderful combination of Blues, Funk and Jazz styled music with exhilarating vocals by the talented Luca Frassani.
