Zena James at the Big Bang At Freud this week, you can catch Alex Hawkins on the Jazz Piano, Neil Mason on the Spanish Guitar, and the Karl Demata Blues Duo; The Bullingdon Arms has Richie Milton & The Lowdown on their famous Monday Blues night and Live Jazz with the Tom Grey Quintet; The Old Parsonage has Stan Ross (piano) with Fuvio (trumpet) and Tim Dawes (dbl bass); Gee's Restaurant has Phil Peskett with Chantelle Duncan and Tim Dawes (dbl bass); The Big Bang Restaurant has Zena James (vocals) & Paul (double bass); and QI Club has Sweet and Lowdown with resident musos "Peter Parker".

This Week's Classical Music (July 21 - 27)

Charivari AgreableSummer is a wonderful time for music in Oxford and nearby. This week, the New College Ante-Chapel is hosting Oxford Lieder's Oxford Song Evening; Christ Church Cathedral has a performance from Oxford Philomusica - George-Emmanuel Lazaridis performing as part of the Piano Festival; Magdalen College Auditorium is this week's location for Sunday's Coffee Concert with James Lisney (Piano) and Alexander Bailey (Cello) (this schedule has been changed due to the indisposition of Richard May), as well as Jack Gibbons playing Gershwin, and Oxford Philomusica's Piano Festival with Alexis Golovin; The Sheldonian Theatre will host City of Oxford Orchestra who will perform The Four Seasons; The Jacqueline Du Pre Music Building will host another two evenings of Oxford Philomusica's Piano Festival, and finally, Exeter College Chapel will host Charivari Agreable three nights this week, performing Songs Across the Oceans, Mozart's Keyboard Heritage, and Mazes & Madness.

What's in the Theatre this week? (July 21 - 27)

Robin Hood LogoWhile the nights are still balmy, why not book tickets to Macbeth or Robin Hood at the Headington Hill Park, The Merchant of Venice at the Oxford Castle, The Tempest at the Trinity College gardens, or The Taming of the Shrew or The Importance of Being Earnest at the Wadham College gardens. What's in the Cinema this week? (July 21 - 27)

Superman Poster Opening this week is action movie Stormbreaker. Based on the novel by Anthony Horowitz, the film follows Alex Rider, a 14 year-old boy who finds that he's been unwittingly trained to be a secret agent for the British secret service. The film is rated PG, and stars Alex Pettyfer, Ewan McGregor, and Mickey Rourke.

Garfield PosterAlso out this week, in time for the school holidays, is Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties. The famous cat comes to Britain and accidentally ends up ruling over a castle after a case of mistaken identity. However, an evil lord soon threatens his reign. Rated U, the film stars Bill Murray, Breckin Meyer, and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
