Opera AnywhereThe Holywell Music Room is this week's location of Sunday's Coffee Concert with the Prometheus Piano Trio as well as the location for Jack Gibbons playing Rhapsody in Blue.; Exeter College Chapel will host Charivari Agreable two nights this week, performing The Virtuoso Godfather and The Oxford Psalms - Domestic Devotional Anthems & Psalms from 17th Century England; Magdalen College Auditorium will host An Oxford Song Evening with Oxford Lieder, as well as the City of Oxford Orchestra performing The Trumpet Shall Sound; and finally, Opera Anywhere performs Open Air Opera at the Oxford Castle.

Charley's AuntAlso showing this week: The Oxford Playhouse is running Charley's Aunt; The Burton Taylor Theatre is showing the child-friendly Egg and Spoon, and Dreams Come Out To Play; and finally, The Abingdon Touring Theatre Company will be bringing Canterbury Tales to Ewelme, Horton-cum-Studley, and the Unicorn Theatre in Abingdon.

What's in the Cinema this week? (August 18 - 24)

Harsh Times PosterOpening this week is the drama Harsh Times. Good times turn bad when two hell-raising drop-outs are faced with the consequences of a few days spent causing havoc around Los Angeles. The film is rated 15, and stars Christian Bale and Freddy Rodriguez.

John Tucker Must Die PosterAlso out this week is the teen comendy John Tucker Must Die. Jesse Metcalfe (Desperate Housewives) stars as a high school student who keeps cheating on his girlfriends. Three of them get together with a new girl to break his heart and dump him. The film is rated 12A, and stars Jesse Metcalfe, Brittany Snow, and Ashanti.


Snakes on a Plane PosterLast, but certainly not least, is the opening of the superbly named Snakes on a Plane. An FBI agent escorting an eyewitness on a flight has to deal with a plane full of deadly snakes released by the criminal who wants the witness dead. The film is rated 15, and stars Samuel L. Jackson, Byron Lawson, and Nathan Phillips.
