Towersey Village Festival

If you're looking for something to do for the Bank Holiday weekend, we highly recommend the Towersey Village Festival. Only 15 miles from Oxford (20 minutes drive), this festival is fun for the whole family. There is music and entertainment, food, stalls with all sorts of interesting items, and a general feeling of relaxation and happiness and fun. You can go for the day (free parking and nominal entry fee), or buy a weekend pass and camp out! The festival runs from the 24th through the 28th. For more information, check their official website.

This Week's Classical Music (August 25 - 31)

Opera AnywhereThe Holywell Music Room is this week's location of Sunday's Coffee Concert with Gina Mcormack (violin) and Nigel Clayton (piano) as well as the location for Jack Gibbons playing his Farewell Piano Party - the conclusion of his 19th summer piano series; Exeter College Chapel will host The City of Oxford Orchestra's Baroque Magic night with pieces by Bach, Mozart, Telemann, and Handel; and finally, Opera Anywhere performs Open Air Opera at the Oxford Castle four nights this week.

What's in the Cinema this week? (August 25 - 31)

Severance PosterThis week, comedy blens with horror in the opening of Severance. A team-building weekend for a weapons company sales team turns into a nightmare. Set in the mountains of Eastern Europe, they first fight each other, then become hunted by a bunch of crazed killers. The film is rated 15, and stars Danny Dyer, Laura Harris, and Tim McInnerny.

Dupree PosterOn the lighter side, opening this week is You, Me and Dupree. Settling down into married life proves a bit difficult for newlyweds Molly and Carl, when the best man overstays his welcome. The film is rated 12A, and stars Owen Wilson, Kate Hudson, and Matt Dillon.

Volver PosterThe Phoenix Picturehouse has the beautiful and colourful new film by Pedro Almodóvar called Volver, starring Penelope Cruz. After her death, a mother returns to her home town in order to fix the situations should couldn't resolve during her life. Of her family left in the town, her ghost slowly becomes a comfort to her daughters, as well as her grandchild. The film is rated 15.
