coffee cupThis week's Coffee Concert at the Holywell Music Room is the Fibbonacci Sequence with performances of a Rawsthorne Trio and a Debussy Trio.

Oxford Chamber Music SocietyAlso this week are several performances from The Oxford Chamber Music Festival - celebrating the music of Mozart, Schumann, Shostakovich and Larcher. Performances will take place at the Sheldonian Theatre, the Jacqueline Du Pre Music Building, and the QI Club on Turl Street. .


John, George, Leigh and PercyFinally, the City of Oxford Orchestra performs Baroque Masterpieces by Handel, Vivaldi, Couperin, Zipoli, and Bach at the Sheldonian Theatre; Oxford Sinfonia performs an Orchestral Concert at the University Church of St Mary; and The Burton Taylor Studio has John, George, Leigh and Percy - An Evening with the Romantics, as well as Raphael playing the Acoustic flamenco guitar.

Tracy BeakerThe Oxford Playhouse is running the Waiting for Godot, the child-friendly The Gruffalo and Friends, and Tracy Beaker; The Old Fire Station has Connect/Disconnect; The Burton Taylor Theatre has a preview of The Desire Tree, the child-friendly The Lost Moon, and Monsieur Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Quran; The New Theatre has Annie and X-Factor stars Journey South; and finally The Theatre at Headington has Nothing Left to Lose and a lecture on Controlling a Bird Flu Epidemic by Dr. Elspeth Garman, reader in Molecular Biophysics at Oxford University

What's in the Cinema this week? (September 22 - 28)

Inconvenient Truth PosterFirst up is the documentary created by Al Gore (who "used to be the next president of the United States") called An Inconvenient Truth. This film was a surprise hit in the States, and is part of Gore's campaign to make the issue of global warming a recognised problem worldwide. This film contains images of ecological disasters. (U)


Clerks II PosterNext is the comedy sequel Clerks II, starring Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, and Rosario Dawson. Dante and Randal are still slacking. This time, they're in their thirties and offending people in the fast food restaurant they work in, until one of them feels like its time to grow up. Jay and Silent Bob are also back in the sequel. This film contains strong language and crude sexual humour. (15)


Hoodwinked PosterFor children this week, we have Hoodwinked, starring the voices of Anne Hathaway, Glenn Close, and James Belushi. This new take on the classic Little Red Riding Hood story starts at the end where an investigation begins into a disturbance at Granny's cottage, involving a girl, a wolf and an axe. This film contains mild violence. (U)


Children of Men PosterLastly, the futuristic film Children Of Men opens this week. Based on a novel by P.D. James, this sci-fi thriller starring Clive Owen and Michael Caine is set in 2027 in a world where a pregnant woman holds the key to the human race's survival. The film contains strong bloody violence and strong language. (15)
