What's in the Theatre this week?

The Oxford Playhouse:

Snow QueenThe Snow Queen - Internationally acclaimed Teatro Kismet's deliciously inventive production is at once comic and grotesque, sensual and chilling. A spine-tingling adaptation of a classic tale, to touch the hearts of young and old alike.

The Browning VersionThe Browning Version - Local amateur theatre company Oxford Theatre Guild presents a double bill of two of Rattigan's finest plays. The Browning Version is often regarded as Terence Rattigan's best play, and the one by which he himself wished to be judged. Harlequinade, a hilarious farce written to accompany The Browning Version, introduces us to 'luvvies' Arthur and Edna Gosport who are 'simply adored' by their theatre-going public. The darlings of the Theatre World are deep into a dress rehearsal for Romeo and Juliet when an unexpected visitor arrives.

Old Fire Station:

The Browning VersionRichard Herring - The star of BBC2's Fist of Fun and TMWRNJ, Radio 4's Banter, Radio 2's That Was Then This Is Now and international hit Talking Cock in his 22nd Edinburgh Fringe show. Just two people short of a threesome, Herring reflects on solitude, Onanism, why you must sometimes walk alone and whether fantasies are best left unfulfilled.

Burton Taylor Theatre:

The King's Got Donkey's Ears! - A walk in the woods should be fun, but not for Good King Orik. He went in smiling and came out cursed with the great big furry ears of a donkey! Shocked, embarrassed and very upset, the King runs home and hides in his tower, desperately hoping no one finds his secret. Following their hit with Three Billy Goats Gruff, Theatre of Widdershins brings a tale of mythical mayhem and asinine antics, lovingly retold with puppetry, story telling and music.

Insomnobabble - Welcome to Keith's world. All he wants is a good night's sleep, but the voice in his head won't shut up, making his life a demented sleep deprived blur. Using high-energy physicality, wordplay and impeccable comic timing this is a headbending satire about dreams, reality and the thin line between. Insomnobabble premiered at the 2006 Edinburgh Festival where it was a huge success with the public and critics alike and was nominated for a Total Award.

New Theatre:

Bryan FerryBryan Ferry - Look up the word 'style' in the dictionary and you’ll find the definition 'Bryan Ferry'. Upbeat and punky in the 70s, heartfelt and poppy in the 80s, his smooth and distinctive vocal sound made Roxy Music a worldwide success. Now solo, Ferry's flair for touching the romantic in everyone (now replete with jazz-tinged influences) is as powerful as ever.

The Australian Pink Floyd - A stunning visual show which lets you experience Pink Floyd live in a small venue rather than getting only a distant glimpse in a large stadium. They have been described as 'probably the best tribute band in the world' - and, with David Gilmour himself numbering among their fans, who's to argue?!

Theatre at Headington :

BMH Productions presents The Full Monty - Jerry is out of work and out of luck! Threatened with the loss of joint custody of his son, he hits upon the idea of creating an all male strip troupe prepared to go the full monty. The guys must get rid of all their fears, their demons-and, ultimately, their clothes!-if they are to win success and recognition.

Miscellaneous Theatre:

RJ - A Rock Musical - Musical Youth Company of Oxford present an innovative retelling of the story of Romeo and Juliet. Musical styles range from gospel to hip hop via pop and rock. It presents the familiar story in a new way and is well worth a visit! St Edwards School, Woodstock Road
