What's in the Cinema this Week? (March 7-13)
The following films are coming out in Oxford this week:
The Game Plan (U) starring The Rock, Madison Pettis and Kyra Sedgewick. American Wrestling star The Rock plays a top NFL quarterback who enjoys living the high-life. But he's forced to change his ways when he discovers that he's got an 8-year-old daughter from a former marriage. Contains no material likely to offend or harm.
Vantage Point (12A) starring Dennis Quaid, Matthew Fox, Forrest Whitaker and Sigourney Weaver. Following a presidential assassination, eight strangers each give their version of events. As their stories unfold it becomes clear that the motivations behind this attack are more shocking than anyone ever realised. Contains moderate violence and one use of strong language.
The Other Boleyn Girl (12A) starring Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson and Eric Bana. In an age where a woman's destiny was determined by her father, one sister followed the rules. The other defied them. Contains moderate sex and language.
At the Phoenix this week is The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Le Scaphandre et le papillon) (12A) starring Marie-Josee Croze, Anne Consigny, Emmanuelle Seigner and Mathieu Amalric. Remarkable true story of Jean-Dominique Bauby (Amalric), charismatic editor of French Elle magazine, who at the age of 43 suffered a stroke that rendered his brain stem inactive. He awoke from a coma to find himself a victim of locked-in syndrome: mentally alert but physically paralysed. His only means of communicating was by blinking his left eye. He was forced to look into himself for two other things that weren't paralysed, his imagination and his memory. He learned a blinking code for each letter of the alphabet and he painstakingly told the story of a profound adventure into the human psyche. Contains sexualised nudity and one use of moderate language.
