Restaurant Review

Cafe Sojo
96 Cowley Road
01865 724708

Date: February 26, 2007

' Cafe Sojo, owned by the same family as Sojo Bar & Restaurant on Hythe Bridge Street, recently opened in the location where Gashi Gashi used to be, on the Cowley Road. Completely refitted, with the kitchen now in the back instead of the front, the restaurant seems to be twice the size it was when it was the Japanese restaurant. It's sleek and modernly decorated in a pleasing, minimalist style. The menu is basic Chinese, but has the right mix of meat and vegetarian dishes. The miso soup was perfect, and I'm told the Crab & Sweetcorn Soup and the Wonton Soup were good. The vegetarian spring rolls (£3 for 6) were fair. The Teriyaki Salmon Rice (£5.90) was well cooked and tasty, but a little too salty. The Teriyaki Chicken Noodles (£5.70) were a little difficult to eat because the noodles were all stuck together. If the rice dish was ordered instead of the noodles, it would have been perfect. This is a good place to go with family and friends when you want a casual, quick, affordable meal. The kids loved it.
