Wetherspoon's new city centre pub is set to open on Monday, August 4.The pub - which will be called The Four Candles, a nod to a Ronnie Barker sketch - is based in the former Slug and Lettuce premises in George Street.

Kevin Spacey has been named the Cameron Mackintosh Visiting Professor of Contemporary Theatre at Oxford’s St Catherine’s College. The post was earlier endowed by the likes of theatre impresario Mackintosh, composer Stephen Sondheim, playwright Alan Ayckbourn and actress Diana Rigg. The post, which commences in October, is for one year during which he will be giving lectures, conducting workshops and seminars.
