Our combined Oxford Bike and Walking Tour brings you the best of two worlds. The pedestrian element of the tour takes us not only into the scenic environs of Christ Church Meadows, but also inside the colleges themselves. Meanwhile, the Bike Tour element gives you an exhilarating ride around this ancient city and its gorgeous nearby green spaces. We’ll visit some of Oxford’s oldest colleges, and also touch on the quirkier side of the University’s history.
The tour will also enter the Bodleian Library, the beating heart of Oxford University. Established in 1602, this marvellous institution combines historic mystique with cutting-edge modern technology. The bike element of the tour takes us to the centre of the University, Radcliffe Square. With its imposing central chamber, the Radcliffe Camera, this is perhaps Oxford’s most iconic location. There, we’ll see the sculpture that inspired the Chronicles of Narnia, and discuss the entrance exams at nearby All Souls, Oxford’s most prestigious college. We’ll also admire the grotesques (they’re not quite the same as gargoyles – book the tour to find out why!).
A quick ride down to the southern part of Oxford brings us to Magdalen College, former home of Oscar Wilde and C S Lewis. This area also gives us a lovely view of the Botanic Gardens.A bike tour of Oxford that also takes you right inside the University buildings!Heading north, we’ll discuss the Examination Schools, and give you the inside story on those infamous difficult Oxford exams! We’ll pass by the legendary Eagle and Child Pub – a haunt of J.R.R. Tolkien – before arriving at Port Meadow, our favourite part of the tour.We conduct the whole day in a fun, relaxed and friendly manner. If you’re a big Tolkien fan, let us know – we’ll put in some more detail. If you love (or hate) Harry Potter, let us know– we’ll tailor the tour from the start. All our tours are carried out with you, the visitor, in mind.
